Railfans east of Chicago were treated to an unprecedented appearance of the Union Pacific Office Car Special. The special passenger train was headed by two new EMD SD70AH’s the lead unit being the new Spirit of the Union Pacific #1943 which was painted to resemble a B29 of the same name and honor every branch of the U.S. Military. While I was unable to catch the eastbound run which went through around 3 am on Thursday I was able to catch the return trip around 10 pm on Monday night in Amherst, OH.
After the Union Pacific swooped through we were treated to an appearance of the NS Virginian Heritage Unit which I first saw in Roanoke’s Shaffer’s Crossing yard during my the Norfolk & Western 611 excursion in 2015. The Virginian was leading a train of tankers west.
Soon I will be getting my Premier Line model of UP #1943 from MTH Electric Trains!
